On December 2nd, we had the opportunity to host an exciting event alongside Oikos association, where fashion and sustainable enthusiasts gathered to learn more about the brand SAYE and their impactful work. After weeks of thoughtful planning, we welcomed Candela Guzmán and Cintia Vizcaíno, representatives of SAYE, to share their insights and engage with around forty ESADE students.

Introduction to the brand

SAYE was founded in 2017 in Barcelona by two ESADE alumni who had a very clear value proposition. Once finding out there were no sustainable, fashionable and affordable products in the sneakers market, they saw a business opportunity. In such a saturated market, if they wanted to be successful they had to stand out form others by becoming a trustable and conscious company in regards of sustainability. After many months of research and work, they started operating in 2018, after a successful Kickstarter where they were able to produce 5000 pairs of shoes in only 30 days.

With a global footprint, SAYE places significant emphasis on its production process, particularly their supplier's traceability which plays a key role in their value proposition. To differentiate themselves, they chose to manufacture their products with unique, organic and vegan products. Among their raw materials, they typically use apples, corn or cactus to create vegan leather, organic cotton or bamboo lining. However, a group of employees travels twice a year to Milan with the objective of finding out new materials and ways to produce their products. Moreover, SAYE collaborates with small suppliers in the food industry to source these unique materials.

True to their slogan, Walk the Talk, which refers to practicing what you preach and acting accordingly to your values, SAYE has launched a very appealing initiative to many of its customers. For every two pairs of shoes sold, one tree is planted. To date, trees have been planted in regions such as Africa, Australia, and the Amazon rainforest through partnerships with organizations like One Tree Planted or WeForest.

After outlining SAYE’s journey, participants had the opportunity to hear from Cintia, the product manager and designer, about the intricacies of their shoe production process and the inspirations behind her designs. Following this, Candela, from the marketing department, elaborated on SAYE’s marketing strategic approach, showcasing their budget allocation and types of costumers. A highlight of her presentation was the emphasis SAYE places on the role of the press, they already have coverage in Vogue, GQ, and InStyle. Among their notable customers, celebrities such as Harry Styles, Alessandra Ambrosio, Matilda Djerf, and Sebastian Stan have been spotted wearing SAYE's shoes.

Case Cracking and Networking

Once the presentation concluded, and attendees had been thoroughly inspired, the event transitioned to a case-cracking session. Cintia and Candela posed three real-life challenges that the team is currently dealing with, inviting participants to brainstorm solutions. This interactive part of the event provided attendees with a hands-on glimpse into real-world problem-solving within a company, making the experience exceptionally valuable.

After six groups presented their ideas, a winning team was announced. The winners were awarded a gift card from SAYE as a reward. The event then moved into a networking session, where attendees could converse with Candela, Cintia, and one another. During this part, we were delighted to feature products from outstanding sponsors that added a touch of flavor to the event.

Among our sponsors, we had the opportunity to collaborate again with DOLÇ. DOLÇ is a bakery and patisserie located in Carrer de Josep Puig i Cadafalch, 50 in Sant Cugat Del Vallès. After collaborating with them in the Zadig and Voltaire event, they offered attendees delicious croissants and pains au chocolat which were enjoyed by many.

Demasie cookies, known for their delicious cookies and cinnamon rolls in Barcelona, were also among our Sponsors. They contributed with a wide variety of flavored cookies and cinnamon rolls that made the event more fun and attractive, leaving everyone with the sweet taste of Demasie.

We also worked with Tranquilo Matcha, a brand founded by Esade Master’s students whose initiative is to offer matcha to students. Tranquilo blends Asian culture with Barcelona vibes, offering high-quality organic matcha tea and a selection of delicious baked goods for the event, offering a unique touch that guests genuinely appreciated.

The Efashion team extends heartfelt gratitude to the SAYE team, particularly Candela and Cintia, for sharing their invaluable insights into the company. We also deeply appreciate all the sponsors for their exceptional contributions and reliability. Finally, we want to thank all the attendees for their professionalism and innovative ideas.

We look forward to seeing you at the next event, bigger and better things are coming!!
